I used Google Translator, mate.

Copied and pasted Phil's post and clicked Jibberish/English.

Worked a treat ????

Haha - good on you Phil.

The words translated ok - making them into a sentence which was understandable was a bit more tricky ;)

OK, so tonight I made my first curry using the Soup Maker base.  In order to ensure that it was the base that I was testing and not the recipe, I made the simplest possible chicken curry :  very light chicken pre-cook in oil, g/g, Kashmiri masala and a little (unrefrigerated) base, then gently bhooned 3 tablespoons of Bolst's hot curry powder in a slight excess of oil, added a little base, reduced, added the remainder of the 3/4 pint of base, 1 teapsoon sea salt, cooked until the oil came out, added the chicken, cooked gently for a few more minutes, added some chopped coriander stalk, two more minutes at a very gentle simmer, and served with two buttered chapati.  Overall impression was that the consistency of the base was absolutely fine, but there were slight hints of turmeric coming through which makes me think that because bhooning is not possible in a soup maker, a soup maker base should be spice-free (i.e., just water, oil, onions, garlic, ginger, tomato and salt).  A useful addition to the kitchen armoury which should obviate the need for Kenwood, pressure cooker, etc.

It's about that time of the year again, guys and gals, so thought I'd resurrect this old thread.

I had a laugh reading last year's replies.

Once again, may I ask to keep any responses clean and curry-related.

Personally, I'm not bovvered - I'm not going to get a tandoori oven (tricky in an apartment). Maybe a slightly bigger tawa would be good, so I could make slightly bigger naans?

Come on, Santa, I've sent the letter and expect the appropriate response  :)

Love the post.

A job in a BIR for me. Likely to get sacked quickly though down to tasting and eating too much and asking too many questions

Certainly no need for tandoor. IFFY tikka recipe and gas BBQ take some beating.

Expecting my scrap heap pizza oven will do naan even better down to the independent heat control.

A Mix powder A to Z would be nice as I keep putting off having a nose at it.

Hoping for a follow up trip to the balti triangle

I already have my xmas presents sorted - poly tunnel, heated propagator, T8 6500k lights, superhot varieties of seeds, and a selection of superhot chilli powders.

I wouldn't mind a high powered blender to blitz those bases, a spice grinder and Im with Jerry on a job in a BIR kitchen !

I know I have a Le Creuset stainless steel chefs pan and an oil stone to reinvigorate my global knives coming from no.2 daughter and her squaddie.

My wife takes pic's of any cookbooks I show an interest in when browsing waterstones and sends them to the kids, so I guess some cook books will arrive.

No.1 son who "doesn't really like curry" will probably get me the suit hanger thingy that I asked for on my birthday back in March.

No.1 daughter hasn't asked what I want so she will surprise me.

No.2 son is skint so will only surprise me if he gets me anything.

Santa will hopefully get me a Waring spice grinder.
