Street Food Rusholme
« on: July 30, 2014, 05:00 PM »
Had a chance to nip through Manchester the other day for work, so I stocked up on Laziza pastes and this time they had Pasco's in as well at 99p per jar so I got a couple of tikka and tandoori jars to try.

Then i decided to have a bite to eat and nipped into Atlas Shawarma's. Never had a Shawarma before so I thought I'd hive it a go. It was great, fresh chicken kebab meat served on a flat fluffy naan with lettuce onion, tomatoes, pickle, hummus, yoghurt and runny tzatsiki (I think) and then some sour Mango sauce.

Very nice indeed, the sour Mango really made the difference.

appreciate the heads up. i get to rusholme quite a lot but never eat.

have just had tip off to try a "Rasmalai" at Sanam's.

it's like a whole new world - i must in the past have essentially only walked round with my eyes closed or more actually looking for ingredients or equipment - never giving the food a look - which these days does look extremely tempting.

ps the worldwide supermarket at the manchester end (LHS) at the last traffic lights has all that's needed.

I've eaten at Sanams a few years ago, lovely food. Haven't been down the mile lately though, I heard it's changing quite a bit in terms of type of restaurants

Wow sanams is real find. I only went to the shop not the restaurant (which looks equally good).

The owner (I think) is lovely. The rasmalai did not dissapoint.

Will post photo and description from desk top

pic of the Rasmalai,

not easy to put in words how good this tastes. you have to like yogurt. it's like a soft bread (its not bread, i dont know what it could be) seated in yoghurt with a sprinkling of pistachio. the yogurt liquid is based on plain but has some carefully crafted light spicing (defo cardamom). served ice cold.

loved it. i can imagine it being even better after a curry.

ps Shawarma is opposite so a full meal in very few yards.

Looks good Jerry.  Surely it's sweetened milk curds hung in a cheesecloth then served up in sauce? I'm sure if you asked they'd be pleased to explain.

Donald,

i think your right. i will ask.

the chappy who put me onto the dish laughed when i said bread. he did not know either but said the making is very complex and makes the difference in quality.

going to look out for it in warrington (home) next as rusholme is a bit of a drive (uk anyhow).
