Achari Chana Gosht
« on: March 27, 2016, 07:06 PM »
In an attempt to recreate an Achari dish I once had, spent some time in the kitchen this afternoon and ended up with this one.

Achari Chana Gosht

Ingredients

1 Portion pre-cooked lamb
300ml Base gravy
1 Tbsp Vegetable oil
2 Tbsp Chopped onion
2 tsp Ginger/garlic paste
1 tsp (heaped) Mixed spice
1 tsp Paprika
3 Tbsp Tomato paste
1/2 tsp Chilli powder
1 pinch Dried fenugreek leaves (methi)
1 tsp Chopped fresh coriander leaf
2 tsp (heaped) Garlic Achar
1 tsp (heaped) Branston pickle
2 Tbsp Chick peas

Method

Heat the oil at medium heat in pan or wok.
Add chopped onion and fry for a couple of minutes until softened but not coloured
Add ginger/garlic paste and fry for a minute more
Add mixed spice and paprika and fry for about 30 seconds -1 minute
Add tomato paste and mix well - cook for about 30 seconds - 1 minute
Add around 100ml of base gravy - then add lamb, chilli powder, methi and coriander
Cook for a few minutes until sauce has thickened a little
Add the remaining base gravy, Garlic Achar, Branston pickle and chickpeas and cook for a few minutes or until desired consistency is reached.

Probably a nice chunk of cheese would nail it  ;)

It's been quite a while since I had the original, Stephen, so the memory has faded a little. If anything, my one is not as sweet, so a little more Branston next time.

Apart from that, I'm happy with it as a curry so not going to spend a lot more time trying to 'nail 'it' but will certainly make it again.
