Title: local curry house recipes from brisbane australia
Post by: icehawk on January 09, 2014, 04:50 AM
Thought I would let you all know of a site I stumbled on. It is an Indian that has a chain of curry houses all over Brisbane Australia. On their web site they have posted several of their curry recipes they use. I have just tried the chicken madras and I would have to say it was bloody good. No curry sauce used but still better than any madras I have ever made using one. Cant wait to try the others. Have a look . www.sitar.com.au (http://www.sitar.com.au)        Go to authentic Indian recipes at the top, click on it and the recipes will drop down. put recipes in the search box and there they are.

That's the link to their web site, but where are the recipes, Icehawk ?  For a first-time poster to have just "stumbled upon" an obscure Australian web site and then immediately thought "Oh, I must tell the good folk on CR0 about this" strikes me is umlikely in the extreme.  I suspect you are either the owner of the Sitar chain or are acting as their publicity agent.

Not a recipe to be seen,
Just an advertising stunt I fear, Ignore.

Yes, they can be found.  But would it not have been better to post a direct link to them, as in :

        pg-best-indian-authentic-recipes.seo (http://www.sitar.com.au/content_common/pg-best-indian-authentic-recipes.seo)

rather than just link to the root of the corporate web site ?  I still think that you are using CR0 to gain exposure rather than contributing anything of substance, and the ".seo" at the end of the above link is a pretty good clue to this :  "seo" = "search engine optimisation".

And if you're going to steal other people's recipes and then present them as your own, don't use our site to publicise your theft :

yes. the recipes were there were they not.? I have nothing to do with this restaurant so cut your negative (moderated) out. I hope know one else is like you on this sight. if so you can jam it. As a first time poster I have not been given a nice welcome. How many Indian restaurants give away recipes ? This is the first I have ever known and thought others would be exited like I was. Maybe I was wrong.

icehawk - ive reported you to the moderator cocker - no need for abuse and swearing!

Not very bir at all with all the 10 cardamoms etc in the Rogan Josh etc... however everyone cooks their own way to their own taste which i do understand.

However the recipes are the same on the links Phil posted - even the pictures are the same

I tend to agree with Phil on this one to be honest and i was raised to NEVER ASSUME but hey ho......

best, Rich

is it possible this guy is genuine and you've made a mistake? not a very nice treatment for a new member.

Yes, it is (possible that this guy is genuine), and IF he is, then I apologise unreservedly.  However, consider the facts :  Icehawk lurks here in silence since 20 July 2013, 23:47:43, saying not a word.  Today, he writes for the first time, to tell us of his very positive experience with their Chicken Madras recipe.  He posts a link, not to the recipe but to the corporate home page for the Sitar chain.  He does not even provide a link to their list of recipes [1], none of which incidentally is called "Chicken Madras".  The site (as is sadly the case for many sites that have sought publicity via this site) steals other people's recipes, claims them as original, and claims copyright of them.  You are welcome to adjudge him innocent if you wish; I choose to reserve judgement.

Bit harsh to say there's no Madras recipe on the site or that he's passing it off as his own.

As for the quality.

Fair enough, I'm probably just naive and like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, even if they do turn out to be shills.

I wasn't sure if Phil had managed to find the 'Madras' recipe as it was well hidden.

As a later commentator noted, it was Chicken Madras that Icehawk stated that he had made using a recipe from the Sitar site, and there is no such recipe.  There is a generic Madras recipe which calls for chuck steak, and which has clearly been lifted from the Super Food Ideas - April 2004 (page 64) recipe by Kerrie Sun.  The recipes are identical, even down to the image used.

And all this achieves exactly what?  :(  It certainly has nothing to do with what the majority of REMAINING  forum members are here for.  Although I really am beginning to think that maybe it does.  There seems to be more interest in discussing anything rather than BIR cooking and how to improve on what we have achieved so far  :-\  Currently this site is probably the best authority on BIR cooking.  I would like to see this status maintained.  However, if the current trend continues ; far too many off topic and non BIR related posts than anything else, this forum will soon become a waste land.  Anybody with any real interest, knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for BIR and wanting to move things forward, will have long since left because of the antics of those who disregard the whole purpose of this forum.

Rant almost over.

If you don't like what somebody posts then, then simply ignore it. What a waste of Stu's server space getting clogged up with such dross as this thread.  It would be too easy to check out the initial post and link, decide it's not relevant or doesn't interest and simply move on without further ado.
Simples - I WISH  :(

And it's nice to see our old friend CA is still among us:

I used their madras recipe but used chicken instead of beef. I don't know where the recipes originally came from and don't really care. Maybe the Indian stole them. How many Indian restaurants give away recipes. I know of only this one and cant understand why. I am going to try them and take some photos and let you know what I think.

Go for it Icehawk.  Get in that kitchen and cook.  I look forward to reading a post that focuses on actually cooking something and giving other forum members info on the dish  ;)

I agree it doesn't really matter where a recipe comes from if it tastes good. I doubt, however, that they are giving away their own recipes. Rather, the restaurant, may be 'borrowing' other peoples' recipes.

If you like Chicken Madras, try member Chewy Tikka's recipe, based on his video, as featured on this site. It's very highly regarded and it would be interesting to hear how you rate it, compared to the recipe off the restaurant web site you found.

These guys also give away recipes, although I think many of these recipes are home-style rather than BIR style:

The recipes were there, but they updated the website and cleared them all.  I am still very distraught about this.  Their rogan josh, butter chicken and madras were to die for.  I didn't take any photos as I assumed they would be there forever...

Just took advantage of Phil's retrospective investigative skills and did a quick copy /paste of these recipes. Regardless of the recipes source, or provenance, I agree with Middy73 that a couple of these recipes were pretty tasty when I tried them at the time of the OP and ensuing toing and froing.  Although not in the BIR style, I look forward to trying them again.

You can't always count on internet sites to find what we assumed would be a personal resource.  There was a great reference to many things "Cooking"  on a site hosted by the Celtic Society.  Hundreds of international spice blends, condiment recipes and sauces.  Brilliant but gone.

PS:  Edit :  Phil, you are an inspiration.  I have just relocated the archive of the celtnet.org.uk site.  Whoo-hooo.
This site is a treasure trove to a spice junky. Everything from Cajun Blackened fish spice to 1840's Victorian original Arnott's Curry Powder
