British Indian Restaurant Recipe Requests / Re: Aloo Gobi
« on: March 03, 2019, 12:44 PM »
Misty Ricardo - for that video is indeed his - also has posted his Aloo Gobi video on YouTube. I gave it a try last week, Frank, and the result was a hot and tasty dish. I overdid the lemon juice somewhat and will cut it down next time, although I suspect that's just a personal taste thing.
Definitely worth a try.

Good for you, Petespot......I'm pleased you're getting success with the base.  Can I ask how you arrived at this recipe?  What is it that convinces you to use this base above all others?  Have you tried other bases - and if so how does yours compare?  What benefits do you get from it?
Sorry for the questions, but a bit of background and reasoning might help forum members decide whether to give it a try.

Thanks for the extra info Bob - and to everyone who added their thoughts.

Sadly, CT, I agree with the points you make.  Watching it the first time I also thought it was no more than a basic chicken curry.  Maybe their customers are willing to wait 18 minutes for their freshly prepared meal, but I doubt if any of the Birmingham Balti Houses would play that game.

Oh well......back to trying to make more discoveries!!

Thanks for posting, Bob - and for the video from Hussein.  I've never cooked Balti yet and he makes it look so simple!
Quick question if I may.....what makes the dish a Balti?  There doesn't seem to be anything in there (apart from green pepper) that you wouldn't find in a Bhuna, for example.  Whenever I've come across Balti recipes before, including ones on this forum, there's usually mention of adding a Balti paste at some stage - unless I missed something!!
Even so, it looks gorgeous and deserves a try!

Home-cooked curry washed down with home-brewed beer....sounds fabulous.  Good luck in your quest to produce both to a tip-top standard.....and welcome to the forum

I have to agree with littlechillie, Rob - your curries look as if they have come straight from the T/A carton to the plate.....even better than a lot of places because yours have the benefit of less oil!!  Always love to see what you've been cooking.

Well done SR - your group photo clearly shows up the differences in colour and consistency of the sauces.  Never mind the garnish, I'd just love to get tucked in to each dish and sample it to within an inch of its life!
