Lets Talk Curry / Re: 70's Curry

70s a bit before my time for curry eating lads, sorry!
I grew up in Belfast, which for reasons that shouldn't need explaining was lacking in social amenities. I do remember getting Chinese in the early Eighties when my mum took me out for things like school shopping, We'd get the "businessman's lunch" which included such wonders as a starter which was the syrup from a tin of pineapple chunks with  a drop of food colouring in it!   Exotic.

I know I had my first Indian meal in Cambridge in about '84 when at camp with the ATC. A fixed menu, I only remember the main which was a (hot) Keema with a side of pakora/bahjee.

I also remember my girlfriend's dad taking me to a "the kebab house" around '86 (I was 16/17), it was a tiny kebaberie, with bar type seating. I thought it was incredibly sophisticated - really!

Thanks, will try that one out and let you know the results.   Flat breads in general, other than basic chapati,  elude me

Naan.   The best I can manage is something similar to the ones you can buy from the supermarket, which are nowt like a TA naan.

Panipuri look good, might have to try a practice batch or two & curry puffs look like ideal.

Thanks guys, will get a couple of chutneys together too and that's me in the clear.

How about some Pakoras or Samosas?

Samosa are an idea, I find pakora a bit "iffy" cold, maybe it's my batter!

Lets Talk Curry / Finger food?

Hey all,

Not a regular contributor here, but a regular user of the recipes for sure.

I'm after some recipes for spicy finger food that will be tasty and safe eaten cold.

Our local rugby club doesn't do anything on New Year's Eve due to expense/the youngsters going clubbing but the bar is open and some of the more "veteran" members meet up to abuse the juke box and have a beer fest.

The form is that everyone brings a platter, it's usually sandwiches or crisps/dips but I'd like to do something a wee bit more chilli-head oriented.

Pointers or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Grow Your Own Spices and Herbs / Re: Chilli growing time!

I have many different varieties planted, just to see what would happen.

The only plants from which I've actually got fruit are Apaches.  Some of the other plants are otherwise much more developed, they've even been in flower, just no chillies.

Going to try and overwinter some and start the survivors early next season under grow lights.
