Curry Leaf plant
« on: November 10, 2017, 02:33 PM »
Has anyone grown the curry leaf plant - seems to be a few varieties available so would be interested to know which is the best one to buy, advice on who to buy from in the UK, and how to look after it (i.e. will it survive in a greenhouse)

Cheers :)

Hi, I have a curry leaf plant that is thriving and is now 23" tall. I leave it out in a pot in the summer but bring it in the house once the weather changes, I daresay you could put it in a heated greenhouse but I wouldn't risk no heat. I initially brought it from someone online as a small plant, at the moment I have got scale insects on it which they give off a sticky substance on the leaves so have been spraying it with an organic pesticide (neem) and hope that this will do the trick.  I would hate to lose it as find it invaluable to have in the kitchen but obviously wouldn't use it at the moment.

Thanks for the info.  Where did you get it from - I can see a few vendors on eBay

Hi, I can't remember but think it was someone on Ebay. To be honest I've had a closer look at my plant and it is absolutely covered with insects even though I have been spraying it so I've discarded all the leaves and will now dump the plant as I don't fancy putting it in my food any more so I have ordered 3 bare rooted cutting off Amazon and intend to start all over again.  :'(

Good first hand info! Anita

I use curry leaves in my BIR cooking and often thought about
growing my own  tree, but not aware they were prone to bugs.

I grow a few kitchen herbs in the summer months and it is a treat
just to grab some of your home grown, when needed.

Fresh Coriander and Curry leaves are always available at my local
Asian Store and still quite cheap.

Just bought 40g of fresh curry leaves today. 1.29GBP.
Will give these a good wash, dry and freeze what I don
