Chana dal.

Nice healthy Chana dal tonight, served with fresh pitta.

Not something i would have ever considered until I joined this forum.   A chana dhall side in a restaurant was enjoyed.  My trying to replicate it was never on the radar.  But now I enjoy a basic recipe with a couple of chappatis on a regular basis.  Simple but very effective.

Gav I hold my hands up here.

I have followed the Indian trend due to budget restrictions. Split peas and lentils.

Yellow peas (matar) is replacing chana dal as its equally nutritious and prices are one third of chana.

Garlic, spicy and buttery  :D comfort food.

What recipe are you using LC?

One cup lentil
One cup chana dal split pea.
Soak wash two hours min.

Pressure cook lentil + dal with G+G three cups water. Half chopped onion I use white. Time 20 mins.
Remove pressure then put on slow heat and assess any extra water if needed, add Half tsp haldi.

Fry one star anise, pinch cumin seeds one bay leaf.
Fry one half garlic bulb chopped and brown. Then add one and half shredded onion in oil TIL just browned.
Tsp mix powder, half tsp chilli powder. Fry with onions + tsp salt.
Combine with dal.
Now add three chopped finger chilli, two fresh chopped tomatoes and fresh chopped coriander remove from heat and stir in.
Tast for seasoning, add good size chunk of salted butter.
Done. LC
