Madhuban Curry Sauces
« on: January 12, 2019, 07:47 PM »
Ok Folks, who's used any  Madhuban Curry Sauces?
http://www.madhuban.co.uk/index.html
this is what they say
At Madhuban we pride ourselves on our truly authentic restaurant-style curry sauces. They don't just taste like the real thing......they are the real thing. No Pale imitations these - they come straight from the curry house kitchens. We think they're perfect. With the help of the recipes on this site, so will you.

I finally found out my local supplier, which was about 12 miles away, so I bought two sauces
Madras and Balti
I tried the madras and it does taste different
Certainly not home made, in either aroma or flavour
But there's no way it tasted anywhere near as good as a decent takeaway curry
It's got a slight twang to it
Think it might be star anise
When heating the sauce it doesn't smell "wrong"
But lacks any real attractive flavour and (dare I say it) the spices seem a little grainy, maybe raw?
I wouldn't buy again, but glad I tried it
My wife , by the way, gave it a big thumbs down
Far prefers my BIR cooking

TO be honest I don't know whether I've tried Madhuban or not.  I have certainly tried several different variants of the same theme, and none have ever really impressed me, but I continue to live in hope.

it was the fact that it's made  by the restaurant that interested me
if anyone could get it right, a restaurant should

There was a TV programme a few years back where a girls curry was selected by a supermarket panel to be sold in the shops.
They tampered with it so much that by the end of the process was unrecognisable to her original recipe.
You could see in her eyes at the final tasting that she didnt care anymore and was thinking "F*** it, just do what you want!

I imagine the restaurant has to follow similar guidelines and regulations.  ::)

Undoubtedly the same is true of stuff like pataks.
I Only once made the mistake of using their pastes to make a curry.
Had such a horrible overpowering tang to it as well.
Never again!
