I'm out of tomato paste and want to use up some tins of tomatoes, so thought I'd switch them for as an experiment.
Do you think I'd need to water the blended tomatoes down, as recommended when using tomato paste/puree?

No need, the opposite in fact, I usually pass it through a sieve after blending.
I also use more in a dish than usual.

Tks CT; did you notice any discernible difference in final curry with this method?

Because I use a light neutral Garabi, the lack of the usual Puree tang seems
to make the curry lighter and tasting fresher.
I suppose it depends on which dish and how complex the other ingredients are,
but haven't found any negatives at all.
One Restaurant I know only uses blended Plum Tomatoes straight and another pre cooks a
huge pot with spices etc

I used blended plums for a while and I always use them in my traditional takes and chicken pre-cooking. At one point, I seemed to prefer it, but I was shot on this forum for "blended plums" are not BIR enough. Well, one of our most informed BIR sources just confirmed there are BIRs using this aproach exclusively, so who's laughing now? ;-)
Anyways, I didn't find much discernible difference between the two, but like you, I also used them in one occasion where I didn't have the paste and the first few dishes came out quite pleasing at the time.
The good thing is that, nearly all roads lead to rome!

All i do is empty a tin of plum tomatoes into a jug and blend. 1/2 a chefs spoon goes into a madras, 2.5 into a S.I.G and 1 Csp goes into a jal.
