Hi all just thought I would share my new gravy pan with you all, I was looking on a known auction sight for a used heavy duty Aluminium pan.
The prices I encountered were high and overpriced, after searching around I found this!
It arrived next day even after selecting 3-5 day postage, the pan is all I wanted@4mm heavy gage and comes with a lid. For just over 30? it's a steal.
Here's a link and a photo of my new Pan in case anyone is in need like me :)

I bought a very large, very well made stock pot from Wilko a couple of weeks ago and it cost only GBP16, so GBP32.93 (incl p/p) for aluminium is twice what I paid for stainless steel.
Here's the product I have:
http://www.wilko.com/pots+pans/wilko-stock-pot-12l/invt/0322498?VBMST=stock%20pot&VBMST=stock%20pot&VBMTC=1c9eed5033a7e34b07409182aad148c1 (http://www.wilko.com/pots+pans/wilko-stock-pot-12l/invt/0322498?VBMST=stock%20pot&VBMST=stock%20pot&VBMTC=1c9eed5033a7e34b07409182aad148c1)
They say it holds 12L but that's incorrect - it holds 14L comfortably and 15 litres at close to capacity.

Looks real nice George and I guess it's a great stainless steal pot to use! In fact I have a couple like this.
But I am paying for 4mm heavy gauge catering Aluminium and it's not cheap unfortunately. Used pots normally sell at the cost I managed to purchase this at.
Cheers :)
-
littlechillie - you are right that 4mm aluminium is a far better material if you need to use the pot for much more than simply heating liquid. I also like the chunky, commercial look of your pot and, for what it is, GBP32.93 (incl p/p) is good value.
But for making base sauce where you start with loads of water and never let any sauce boil down to anywhere near dry, I suggest the Wilko pot is a bargain, and more than adequate.
One or two reviews on the Wilko web page are correct in that ingredients may burn if mis-using the stainless pot for much shallow frying, but who needs to use a 15 litre stock pot for shallow frying?
They are also correct that the base is not flat. The central area is inset for some reason. It's perfect for my gas hob.

Morning George, thanks for the detailed explanation above. Agreed that both are worth having for there different uses :)
I really wanted the larger thicker pan for a variety of things! I bulk cook in the kitchen a lot, and also wanted a good pan for pre-cook veg and rice on a large scale.
Cheers.

'Ye canna bend the laws of physics'
I think thats a typing error as it say 12" 30 cm and 7.5" H which is roughly 19cm

Actually, Gav, I'm quite impressed. Who'd have thought that Geordies were taught such useful stuff :) I thought the Geordie education was all about disabling alarm systems and hot-wiring cars - just goes to show how wrong you can be...........
That education takes place up the road from you in Glasgow. I remember when it was city of culture in the 90's and they started leaving your car up on books instead of bricks. ;)
And 2 good looking pies there. Desperate Dan would be proud.

Bargain! I Just picked ip 25kg of onions for a couple of pound, so it's time to test this bad boy out :D
