Myself and a friend are playing around with the curry recipes as sometimes the 'bir' with the bases can be a bit similar. My friend made a chickpea curry with pomegranite molasses instead of tamarind. Both have a fruity bite to them but the pomegranite molasses has a fruitier hint without the harder kick of tamarind. I was quite taken with the results and can recommend this product. It was purchased at Waitrose.

For anyone wanting to play around with something new this is excellent.

i've been using it in pasanda. it adds a nice zing. just 1 tsp (5 ml)

the trouble is i find the bottle gets out of date as i dont use it anywhere else - or not made a connection to another use.

And since its malasses i'd question whether one should worry about the date..... full stop  ;D

hi all

here in Turkey its used a lot as a salad dressing, its actually pomegranite extract, it can be used anywhere lemon is called for and has more depth to it.

dont worry about expiration date, the older it gets the better the flavour as it matures, just keep it in the cooler once opened.

quite an eye opener the above posts.

i've clearly not had my blinkers off enough - going to try using it far more rather than chucking it.

would also say it really does last in the fridge - i'm over 12 months before ditching.

for anyone who's not tried it - well worth a purchase (now even if not solely intended for curry).

its quite a complex taste having sort of sour then sweet - best i can describe is one of those really nice cough or throat medicines.

it really does give a nice zing.

2 or 3 years later from the fridge it will be even better, it matures just like Balsamic dressing  ;D

trust me, Im living in the country that specialises in it, the best ones come from a provence here named Hatay in east of Turkey famous for growing 'NAR' - Turkish for Pomegranite

try it on ice cream!

add some chilli powder to a small portion of it and use it as a Poppadom dip!

Amazing and versatile stuff.

I used the 'doganay' brand one in a 'Madras' yesterday. The missus keeps a bottle in the cupboard for salad dressing and there were no lemons in the house. Different tang, but I prefer the lemon.
