Hi all. Just want to say Yo and I sympathise with anyone with an outdoor Tandoor during these snowy, wet, cold winter months! Your tongue must be hanging out begging for those juicy Tikka's that are better than a BIR's ? Here's a reminder of what we could have this summer coming.....(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/8488adc649766b6579f1a14274f4ad45.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/98198dcd3e394df84cbd27d3a50b2c70.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/d473df68d4cd33e51795a63f79d32b90.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/1691b6fe25d0813f359eac1ff3fec56f.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/874e9ff07f4e9659037183398861c23e.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/97235807528fccec9bb8fd72a2266512.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/1e9bb0cf164b73a41c4239f269622475.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/e8d62a765edb10a8b4a560b920c8d016.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/ba2ba12a71ce0c56bf646fa7d4dab21f.jpg)(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/02/05/0d63b9ffdfadb1a8155851275de501bf.jpg)

Hey Littlechilie, Gav, london, fried, Madrasandy & chewytikka. Thanks for all your welcome notes. I haven't worked out how to reply to an individual post yet but working on it! I wish I had this for dinner too. My gas conversion kit for my Tandoor arrived yesterday so hoping to get out there this weekend. I will be taking a few tips I've read from you guys for the marinade and base gravy and let you know how I got on. Thanks a lot. I like the idea of a slab to hold the skewers.
-
I think it was Sumeet from Puri Tandoors that gave me that tip...

I want to make shaw I've got the starters right this weekend and cos I'm a fussy bugger I'm bound to be on here asking you guys how I can improve! The starters are Tandoori Prawns & Tandoori Chicken Tikka's. Unless my food melts in my mouth I'm not happy. I'll put the recipe, my thoughts, results & some pictures on here Sunday/Monday.

I always fancy getting one of these everytime someone posts photos of the food coming out of them and I always like the Puri one with the pizza rack addiition. Would be great fun at parties getting people to cook their own naans or pizzas.
One day in a moment of madness.... It shall be mine.. Oh yes, it shall be mine. :)

Go for it Gaz! The Puri Tandoors are definitely the poshest I've seen on the market but what with all that shinny stainless steel to clean.... Ooooh! Mines filthy at the moment... Sometimes I wish I'd gone for a less posh one. Maybe like one of the ones Reza Catering sell (www.rezacatering.com). They have a fair size green one that's square'ish, reasonably tall enough, tuff looking like it could withstand our harsh winters weather etc and it was only about ?150.00 + VAT. I think you could dual use it by fitting the gas fittings when you want to! I'm told the taste difference between Gas & charcoal is minuscule but gas must be so must easier to use! I'm fed up with getting the Tandoor hot enough, turning round to have a quick chat and a small beer to find it needs more coals so start again.... Plus all those ashes!!! I'll find out this weekend. The pizza rack will also fit this one.... Let your day of madness arrive.....!

Welcome Stuartnewport, & great pics :)

I do Madrasandy. Why's that? iPads don't seem to be good when using this site, would you agree?
Thank you for the welcome ELW

I think Andy was referring to the 'sent from my ipad' addition at the end of your posts.
You can take that off by the way :)
-
Ok. It's gone... Can you tell me how to start a new topic when using an iPad?
-
I don't have an iPad, Stu, but I would imagine it would be very similar to how you created this topic, but on the iPad.
Navigate to the forum homepage - pick a suitable category for your new topic - then create New Topic :)

Doubt it very much. The clay liners are porous, so if they get damp and then theres a good frost....Youll end up with an expensive box of rubble.
Are you anything to do with Puri??
Regards
Mick
-
No nothing at all to do with Puri. I just bought a Tandoor from them. They asked for pictures or video so I sent and they seem to like them enough to put on their site... Why not. Good point about the green Tandoor.
-
My apologies Stuart. Its just that we get a few "entrepreneurs" peddling their ware from time to time.
Looking forward to seeing your recipes. The food looks absolutely wonderful :)
One thing Im curious about is the paving slab with holes in. Cant just see the point in doing that to be honest. As soon as I remove the skewers from my tandoor, I remove the meat from them straight away. Do you ever have any problem removing the meat?

I assume the slabs for the ones ready to go (1st photo) and the second photo is just for display purposes for the photo. My dogs would love it though :)

Lol I think my dogs would love it too!
My slabs would be plastered with either marinade or fat. I suppose the Dogs would do their best to keep them clean. ;D
Quite like the idea of the gas conversion kit tho. It can be annoying when the tandoor starts cooling down. How much for a kit Stuart?, and where can I get one from?
Cheers

A belated hello to stewartnewport - what an entrance!
-
Hi Mick. Gav you're right, from Puri @ ?85.00 for the burner & baffle plate. To complete the kit I needed to buy separately the hose, regulator & Gas bottle. Altogether I guess ?180.00 but worth it. Had it for 2 weeks now and used 5 times. The difference I find between charcoal and gas is : GAS; even heat, no more burning of the lower levels & no need for the spud at the bottom. Takes 1 minute to light it and ready to cook @ 300 Celsius in 35 mins. No cleaning out used ashes etc. Doesn't cost me ?10 - ?15 in coals each time I fire it up! CHARCOAL; I feel like I'm cheating by not using coals!!! Here's a couple of pictures of results this week:

Looks good Stu. Can I ask if it uses much gas and what type of regulator did you use for it?
-
Not sure Gav but my guess is 1 quid a cook or less. I bought a 13 kilo bottle of propane at a cost of 26.50 (the one off cost for the bottle was 35.00). I reckon I'll get more than 26 cooks! I'm using a propane regulator. They are fairly standard and available. I'll try and remember to take a pic of it later and send it over.

Cheers Mr Punter. Thats enough info for me. Gas it will be then.
-
Thanks Stu. Think I'm sold on the gas idea too. Takes a lot of hassle out of the job.
Just need to save the pennies now

With regards to gas bottle deposits check around different supply companies as some do no-deposit bottles over a certain size (it used to be 14kg at one I use but not sure if it still applies). Calor seem to always charge a deposit regardless but theres always empty bottles on Gumtree /free ads for either free or not much money. A good ask around with people you know and you can usually source one for free.
Regulators and hose are cheap on ebay and don't forget your lava stones.
