My wife bought a Quorn Tikka Masala ready-meal and the kids liked it...
I had a look at the sauce ingredients and now I make it much better.
I have made it a number of times and it has always been amazing:
In a large frying pan (I use a 30cm saute pan):
Oil (I use Groundnut)
Onion (finely chopped)
Garlic Puree (I use a block of Taj frozen)
Ginger Puree (I use a block of Taj frozen)
Coriander (I use crushed seeds or powder)
Cumin (I use crushed seeds or powder)
Paprika
Turmeric
Garam Masala (I use Schwartz)
Chilli powder (I use extra hot)
* Black onion seeds (a tiny amount)
* Fenugreek powder (a tiny amount)
Tomatoes (I use a few quartered cherry tomatoes with the seeds removed)
Tomato Puree
* Creamed Coconut block (about an inch)
Splash of water
Plain Yoghurt (I use low fat Greek)
Single Cream
* are my own additions.
To that I add some:
Chopped peppers
A handful of sliced green beans
Some frozen haddock (skinless & boneless)
EDIT: I add some small frozen prawns too

I will be sure to try that, tommy. It sounds just like the one from my local TA. Thanks for posting.

Haddock!
You must be codding. ;D
-
It's an extremely quick recipe to make, tommy, and, as luck would have it, I had most of the ingredients pre-prepared (what are the chances of that)?
I didn't have any haddock though and had to substitute it with whatever fish I had lying around.
Still almost identical to my local TA's CTM, thanks again :)

Haddock holds together well in a curry. Pollock is good too in a curry and is very cheap.

I've got some frozen pollock as it happens but I'm not sure I wan't to risk it in a curry, especially when it's begging to be coated in crispy batter and sat next to a pile of chippy chips.

I made it again tonight and it has become my favourite curry. It is really hard to go wrong. You guys really have to try this!
I use these haddock steaks and throw in some small prawns too:

I use either of these creamed coconut blocks:

The thing is Tommy, the fact that fish is so unrepresented, apart from prawns, in BIRs must be indicative of the awfulness of fish in any state other than battered.
Fishy curries just aren't evocative of anything that satiates the spirit.
Or is that just me? ;D
-
BIRs sell Fish Tikka Massala. Give it a go!
Fish (often seabass, monk fish, sometimes salmon) costs more money than meat or veg so they tend to be the more expensive exclusive items on the menu.
Also consider that BIR tend to add a lot of pre-cooked ingredients. Fish tends to be cooked from frozen so takes longer to cook.
-
SS,
I've been told by BIRs that they don't use fish in curry as the fish from Bangladesh have lots of small bones, maybe the fish are freshwater. Indians from Goa use fish in curries as it's on the coast so sea fish are available.
London.
