I have the same side-loaded on my fire tv stick.  I tend to stick with Genesis as that has all I need.

Yes, love it.  :)
Been using it for a while now. Started off with navi x, mashup and hammys channel. Navi x is good for live TV streams, especially sports. Have installed lots of different repos in the past but they're all much of a muchness really.
Used to use 1channel before all the blocks but got tired of looking for a new address fix. Nowadays I use genesis with no problems at all. Great HD links and no buffering.
Ftv(filmon) for freeview and US TV and occasionally solar movies if I can't find a link.
What I like most about xbmc (kodi) is the settings.
The ability to change contrast and brightness without the need to change it on a monitor or TV.(not with android unfortunately) And the audio adjust if there's any syncing problems. And NO ADDS!  :)

p.s. if you haven't already, fusion is the only repo you'll ever need.

Could anyone translate this thread into comprehensible English ?  I am no technophobe, having spent most of my life in telecommunications, electronics and IT, but I have absolutely no idea what this thread is about at all.

XBMC is a media centre. It is not a streaming service. It aggregates all of your videos into TV shows and Movies, as well as music and music videos, and displays it in the most beautiful fashion of all media centres. It is software that you install. It is not a box you buy, although you can buy some hardware with xbmc preinstalled.

Some addons allow you to stream content, including Netflix and Hulu, as well as some less than legal addons that do it for free. But xbmc does not support illegal content.

You can plug your pvr into it if you have a compatible pvr and service provider, but DSTv refuse to integrate with third party media systems, so it doesn't work in SA.

XBMC is imo the best, and most attractive media centre and media player available. Hands down...

Aha.  Thank you Frank.  Still no idea what any of "navi x, mashup, hammys, repos, 1channel, genesis " are, but at least I now understand the Universe of Discourse.

Genesis, Phoenix and NotFilmOn for me on an Android box (also run it on my PC). I think I've installed Fusion on it as well but the missus mainly watches it so can't remember. Was the easiest way for the missus to watch TV in the kitchen. I use one of the home electrical plug systems for the network connection and its great. I really to to clean out all the unused stuff on it.

I have Kodi on my laptop.  Gr8 - able to watch films the missus won't go to see.

Robin Hood is apparently ano good addon.

Anyone wanting to try Kodi on their kit - go onto Youtube for talk through demo - it's all on there.  Load it up and stream watch all the films, sport tv progs you will ever need - foc

Hi all of the above mentioned Repo's and addons.
Zeus is another good add-on. It's the reincarnation of the old AAA streams.https://seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-aaa-streams-add-on-xbmc-kodi/
It brand new so still adding content etc.

It all has something to do with your hidden exedos.bat sys file Phil. Just press the Any key to stream your tube space, then tweet them over a vpn to the proxies and they will become servers to your dongle.  Simple really.

All this did was put some kind of kiddies theatre version over my Kodi - masking everything else out.  Deleted the lot and pout Kodi back on from scratch

Trying gandelfs "THE ONE" at the minute.

OK, so I've installed Kodi/XBMC; I've installed Total Installer; I'm currently listening to the Total Installer talk-through (British English rather than trans-Atlantic -- oh joy, oh bliss !  Shame about the glottal stops, which drive me mad, but no-one's perfect).  So, two questions :

1) How do I know when a single or a double-click is required in Kodi/XBMC ?
2) What /is/ "a build" ?

Title: Re: Kodi aka xbmc
Post by: daveyham on June 25, 2015, 11:42 AM
I'm no expert, but here goes.
Every thing in kodi is one click.
A build is a customised kodi setup that someone has composed.
You can then install the bulld.
This saves a lot of time and effort, as well as the massive learning curve.
To install totalxbmc builds you need to register on the forum.
This gives you a username and password.
Hope this helps.
Any questions just ask.
I've just managed to get it all working, so its fresh in my mind.
I'm online all day lol.
Dave.

Thank you Dave.  I am currently (?trying to?) install ChrisB1810, so can't test, but it seemed to me that when trying to install Total Installer there was one point where only a double-click would cause anything to happen; I will try again later and report back.

The reason I ask, I've only experience of installing on a android mini PC.

No, I've given up.  I am afraid I find the user interface completely unintuitive.  At least when it was first installed there was an [X] button to close windows; now, following the installation of Total Installer, even that one button has disappeared, and once I am in (for example) "Settings", there is no visible way out again.  I am sure that programs that offer no visible options are fine for some, but for me, any program that does not offer the traditional "File / Edit / View / Tools /  Windows / etc" options is unusable.  Modern flat-screen display are so large that there are /acres/ of room for navigation aids; why anyone would write a program that takes over the whole screen yet offers no visible navigation aids at all is completely beyond me.  It's a generational thing, I am sure.

Thank you Dave; you're very kind, but it's a challenge I don't need.  I never watch terrestrial television, watch satellite television only for things like the Tour de France, never listen to music (other than the very occasional concert by choirs such as Harry Christophers' "The Sixteen" [1]), and if I want to watch a film I download it using uTorrent, convert it to something my Blu-ray players can handle, and watch it in bed while I wait to go to sleep.  So I can't imagine Kodi/XBMC (?"XML-based media centre"?)
playing much of a r

Phil, if you have any, put a grandchild in front of it.  There is no scientific explanation for it but it is widely recognised that children are able to sort this stuff out without instruction or prior exposure.  It is believed to be an aspect of adaptation of species, where a new generation appear to be already conversant with new technology in advance.  I witnessed it first hand with my nephew who mastered extreme levels of competence with computers and gaming consoles at a ridiculously early age (pre-literate) as though it was completely normal and almost "built in".

That's very kind of you, but I have genuinely decided to cut my losses on this one.  I spent a day playing with it, and thought I could cope until I tried to install Total Installer, where things went belly-up as soon as I tried to switch to the "Amber" skin as instructed; I then couldn't start part 2 of the instructions (something to do with the GUI) because as soon as I switched to "Amber" I lost the [X] button to close windows, so could never complete part 1.

Anyhow, as I observed to Daveyham, I can't see XBMC ever becoming central to my life, so having invested a day of my life trying to get to grips with it I shall now cut my losses and return to the IT world that I understand !

Phil, if you have any, put a grandchild in front of it.

Ah, that would have to be someone else's grandchild, since Khanh & I have no children, let alone grandchildren, by choice !

To date, this is the best I have tried. Blows the competition away..
Vdubt25 installed. great for football/sports in HD.
Genesis, Phoenix, Navi-X, the usual suspects all present...
lots more included in the build but there are some you may wish to add independently.
