Hi Guy's just had a new Indian T/A open near me, and a good 80% of their menu is Thali dishes. What is Thali?
A couple of meal's from the menu below,

    Nawab Thali
Fenugreek infused dum-pukth fresh chicken breast Thali in a medium sauce  ???

Kolkata Bujon Thali
Pangash Fish simmered with curry leaves tamrind water and tomatoes. :-\

Mughal Thali
Diced lamb in a hot garlic chillie sauce with whole spices :o

I think I just found out what a Thali is, It appears to be just a compartmented  platter on which to serve a few different dishes. :) a bit like a taster dish I suppose.
anybody tried one??

It is a smorgasbord of Indian delicacies, a bit like a sampler, a little meat, a little chicken, some veg, some rice, maybe a little tikka and a kebab. Each restaurant has their own take on it.
Try them all and enjoy!

I once had a meat thali for one a few years back out of the spice of Blythe TA for a tenner. (Veg thali was 9 quid) To my astonishment, when I got back to my digs, I found that it was full portions of everything included :o  :D
Enough for 4 people!

A Thali meal should be a certain array of different dishes from rice, vegetable dishes, meats, dals, breads, chutneys, sambars that when arranged on your plate/thali should compliment every other dish on your plate/thali, it can be an art in itself to get the right dishes to go with the rice, meat, dals etc..
i do a Thali of 8-10 different dishes then served on a Thali/plate with a selection of different breads.
