I tried this last night and it was fantastic.

I used Pat Chapmans perfect pilau recipe for the rice.

Not sure if that recipe is on here(not checked yet)
If not I will post when I get chance

I thought this deserved a bit of a 'bump' because I've made this a few times using CA's pilau rice and CA's mix powder and it's very nice indeed .. a nice change from 'plain' pilau especially if you've a couple of mushrooms in the fridge that you're at a loos what to do with .   :)

Hi

I really wish Dip was still on the curry video making scene. It would be great if the videos could be remade without that yellow colour tone to them - in fact its hard to distinguish that the objects in the pan are mushrooms :( . Really enjoyed watching his videos. Hope he is OK where ever he has got to.

Cheers

It may be possible to remove the colour cast with post-processing.  If you can point me at one with a really bad cast, I will have a go at removing it.

This is a well deserved bump as it's the best mushroom pilau going! Been using it for years and never fails to impress. Any sign of dipuraja lately or is it true he's gone to the big balti in the sky? God bless if it's true as I've enjoyed all his recipes.

That's what I read on some comments on YouTube some years ago so can't confirm, but he hadn't posted anything new since comments were made.

Has anyone called the takeaway he was working for to find out?

As the surgeon/consultant has given me the all clear(anything in moderation!),decided to do this for family, coupled with masala buttered chicken. The mushroom fried rice was really tasty, everyone wanted more, the buttered chicken, although bland, was tasty too. ::)

This is a well deserved bump as it's the best mushroom pilau going! Been using it for years and never fails to impress...

I had a couple of mushrooms begging to be used up so thought I'd have a go at this. Verdict...bland, very bland.

I've never had it from a takeaway so no idea how it compares but just judged on the way it is I am not really impressed that much. It's palatable enough but eaten with curry I can't even tell it's there flavour wise. I thought the mushroom quantity a bit mean too and I used two fairly large ones.

Obviously the flavour depends to a large extent on the mushrooms and I used standard supermarket button mushrooms which I imagine are the same as the takeaways use as they're the cheapest and they don't exactly help matters much as they are pretty bland to start with.

I think if I made it again I'd up the spicing by 1/2 a teaspoon and use three mushrooms of a variety that actually has some flavour. I even felt it needed extra salt which is unusual for me. Also I wonder if a dash of mushroom ketchup wouldn't help it flavourwise.
