I was in London visiting my Daughter in March this year, I wanted to go to Brick lane she asked a couple of asian guys who worked beside her and they recommended Lahore 1, 218 Commercial Rd, so that is where we went, basic interior, place was very busy with many asian customers, onion bajee was awsome as was the rest of the meal.

Highly Recommended British Indian Restaurants / Edinburgh Restaurants
« on: September 10, 2015, 08:50 AM »
I am finding eating Indian food in Edinburgh has became a lottery due to inconsistant standards in even the "top" restaurants. For over twenty year I ate in the Omar Kyahham, some time twice per week, over the last ten years only been in a handful of times, on my last visit food was boring, bland and cold, a shadow of it former self.

I have tried many other restaurants in the city but I am finding inconsistancy to the hallmark of most of them, possibly a reflection of the current shortage of Indian Chefs in the industry. I had been visiting Mother India a good few times initially with good results but on my last two visits poor quality, lacking in flavour food.

Tonight I am going to Maya in Dunfermline, not outstanding but good and has served consistant quality of food on every visit.

This is a community cafe near the bottom of Leith Walk in Edinburgh and the food is really nice, only a few dishes on the menu but all cooked Desi style. I had veg pokora, veg thali and two cans of juice for around ?10.

I have been to this restaurant a few times, the first time worried that an Indian in such an out of the way place would be good. To my surprise it was outstanding and consistent on each return visit, I would highly recommend that if any members are in the area go and try it.

I am new around here, this is my first post, re the Karma in Whitburn I have eaten there a handful of time in the last 12 years or so, each time the same poor result. The place is lovely, staff are great, each time the starters have been good but the mains not so much, they have been consistantly bland, lacking seasoning with salt and the last time i tried the place I sent my main back. This is the first time in over 35 years of curry eating that I have ever resorted to sending my meal back, it was that bad. To their credit they replaced it with another, this time I went with their recommendation and it was also a very poor dish, I ate half and left. My daughter and her partner have also tried this restaurant and they formed exactly the same opinion. It has won awards, I don't know how, they must have different fare when entering.
