Lets Talk Curry / Re: Curry House Decor
« on: June 12, 2006, 10:20 PM »
My "normal" idea of an curry house is the flock wallpaper, indian music in the background , the odd picture of the Taj Mahal and an aquarium full of fish who can sometimes look more tasty than the curry! The little cards on the table advertising kingfisher or Cobra Beer. then of course there is a bloke sitting on a row of chairs by the counter reading the Sun and waiting for his take away, the couple in the corner desperately trying to have a romantic meal only to be drowned out by the group of lads at a nearby table trying to outdo each other in curry eating, drinking and talking loudly.  Aaaaaaaaah ,just soak up the atmosphere.... ;D ;D ;D ;D
Joking aside I am not too bothered by the decor - I'm more of a take away guy myself. As long as the curry is a good 'un then I'm not too fussed. However from personal observation, the restaurants with the flashy upmarket decor often have flashy upmarket prices to match.........

I seriously enjoyed my curry last night - prawn dansak, pilau rice, garlic nan and onion bhaji       mmmmmmmmmmm......... I'm shopping tomorrow for some ingredients to build up an emergency supply in the freezer and am going to try some of the recipes from the forum.
 :P :P :P

Silly question perhaps, but why is it that  in the current weather situation (hot and sticky and sweaty) I am craving for a decent curry? If it wasn't for the fact that we have already eaten I could MURDER a decent madras, bhaji, naan et al! My dear wife thinks I've been out in the sun too long...is the the first step in becoming a curry addict?   ::)

Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Best Beer?
« on: October 22, 2005, 02:24 PM »
I enjoy a beer with my curry but would welcome your opininons on the best beer to go with a curry. I like Kingfisher as it is not too gassy but appreciate that Cobra is a strong contender as well! Are there some i have missed?
your opinions, as always, are extremely welcome!

thanks

Cooking Equipment / Useful bits of kit?
« on: October 20, 2005, 10:39 PM »
Ok I'm still in kindergarten with regards to curry making but thanks to the excellent help I've received from people on here I'm ready for my first "curry fest"

The wife and sprogs will be going out for the day

A plentiful supply of ice cold lager will be on hand.....

I have lots of freezer space and containers ready....

Curry heaven is the aim and enough to last me till the new year!

QUESTION! apart from good recipes is there any useful bits of kit you would recommend i.e cooking untensils or anything else?

Thanks to everyone for their help so far - this is a fantastic site! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to restrict my curries to one a week as I have a young family and a Chicken Madras does not go down too well with a three year old!
I think home made curries are healthier as you have more control over the fat ciontent and use better quality ingredients.
On the health side I can now virtually guarantee that if I have a cold then a good hot curry will clear it!

My missus does a cracking Roast Beef but can't beat me in the curry stakes. Now the washing Machine bu**ers me completely. My idea of sorting is "dirty and not so dirty". Unfortunately when I've had a hand with the laundry it ends up as an action man boutique! :D :D :D
