Hi Phil,

How exactly do you fry your popadums?

When I put mine in hot oil they curl up like those party whistles and come out (after 3 seconds) soaked in vegetable oil, left on a kitchen towel to dry out, 30 mins later they taste like vegetable oil.

Thanks

Hi 976bar,

I used to frequent The Palash about 10 years ago, opposite The Crown pub in Hayes town (on the Canal) and another pub with a big beaker on the roof, I think it was called something similar (The Beaker??) . The Palash was one of the best. Alas all gone now, along with Barclay Bank. I live in Uxbridge and haven't been to Hayes town in years as I'm told it is a no go area by a mini cab driver who won't go there after 9pm, shame.

Where do you live now? I would be happy to go down -during day light- and take some photos of the area for you.

Hi bigben,

I think the way to cook a proper BIR Tandoori chicken is with a proper tandoori oven, have you got one?  If not, you'll only ever get close

Highly Recommended British Indian Restaurants / Desi Tadka (Southall)
« on: September 17, 2009, 09:33 PM »
I know there are a lot of Indian restaurants in Southall including the brilliant 'The Brilliant' but hear me out.... I was recommended "Desi Tadka' by an Indian friend and seconded by another. From the outside it looks like any other Southall cafe/restaurant, for want of a better word, manky, plastic Indian manikins on the forefront, a fella selling food from what looks like a popcorn heater, you get the picture? but, you walk in to 'atmosphere' quite bright, very busy, many Indian family's enjoying a bit of quality time with exceptional food. No china plates, No candles, No Taj Mahal pictures on the wall or back light moving waterfalls and No waiters dressed in black tuxedo's.  In fact the waiters wear Ali Baba style pants with bright waistcoats and turbans, fantastic.

They don't sell alcohol but you can buy a bottle of wine (or two) from the  mini mart next door and bring it in with you, they're happy to supply glasses for you,

THEN.... after quaffing a glass  of white and whilst eating my starter, there was music and three Indian dancers appeared, again in brightly coloured Shari's, making the experience and atmosphere even more exciting. A very good night and I will return.

Do It

For directions please ask

"Be careful with where you put your fingers, especially after handling the birdseyes. The Swedish recipe says this: "If you put your finger in your nose you might as well have tried picking it with a soldering iron"

After 3 ltrs of lager i could probably stick a soldering iron in my eye and feel nothing, but i will give it a go..

Lol. far too hot for me,

Only joking Rob, it's a hot one.

Next time one of your mates boasts he loves the heat, invite him round for dinner and watch his eyes pop out.
