lol I wasn't having a go at you, Ham...When I mentioned the recipes you say you've been handed by Indian restaurants takeaways, I really was interested in those recipes ;D Believe me, anyone who says they have been lucky enough to get into a takeaway kitchen AND get recipes from establishments is in for a probing. ;)

Some of the restaurant recipes we've had on here have been pretty good (i.e. Dipuraja's and Axe's Indian Garden recipes, not forgetting the Ashoka recipes from Martin) and what didn't work for you may well work for someone else :P I understand your being defensive given your earlier treatment by CA but not all members are so aggressive ;D

Madras / Re: Takeaway/Restaurant Madras - That special something
« on: January 08, 2011, 12:21 AM »
That seems to increasingly be the way of it up here, Jerry....most of the newer restaurants round our way are pushing the likes of madras, dopiaza et al down the menu usually under the heading "old school favourites" or suchlike in favour of new "healthier" authentic curries I've never heard of before.....the places that have madras etc as the "stars" are the same places that do pizza, kebabs and fried chicken. ??? If you want a greaseladen vindaloo, you've got to go a takeaway, not a restaurant. :-\

I had wondered if it has anything to do with the price of vegetable oil going up so much in recent years. Either that or curry is going upmarket lol

Methinks "the ham" is "madrasandy" ;D

Not a problem with the website though...it's a bit misleading though, heading the page with "Indian Restaurant Curry Base Sauce" then saying to ignore any recipes from actual restraurants as they're not very good.....if it's NOT an Indian restaurant curry base, then it can't be called such surely?

The site is just his take on a curry base that he wants to share with the world.....something that any one of us could do.....if we had a microscope and the time lol

It would be interesting if he could share with us some of the actual restaurant recipes he's been given and passed over/discounted. Give him a go, folks......I think this could be interesting ;)

it was only a few year's ago that i had managed to get into some local takeaway kitchen's and get some recipe's, wow ive got one at last! yes i went home thrilled to bit's, i set about cooking what i had been told only to end up with something that did'nt resemble a curry dish, on my travel's around different takeaways i was alway's asking for recipe's, yes they gave them to me but again nothing like what they were cooking, so all these budding curry chef's who say that there local takeaway's gave them a recipe to cook and it was brilliant do yourself a favour do not even bother to cook it

Haggis IS French, Stephen pmsl.....there's not a damn thing we all associate with "Scotland" that actually originated there :o....Saw it on QI lol :P

Have just thought of another favourite show - an oldie this one - George and Mildred.

Oh, come on Stephen, where's your national pride ?  Come clean and admit that "The Tales of Para Handy" is simply unsurpassable ...

** Phil.

Wot?! No Take The High Road? :o sassenach!

There's lots of good comedy programmes on just now that I like, e.g.

Have I Got News For You, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Mock the Week, Peep Show, Come Dine With Me, Frankie Boyle, Still Game, Oz and Hugh Raise the Bar

^^* These ;D And QI, Russell Howard's Good News and I've recently finished the US Hell's Kitchen....there seems to be a new series every couple of months lol Can't abide American "comedy" shows....they're absolute crap - though there are some great American comedians out there! ;D

It's just KFC's way of making sure you're properly emptied before tomorrows lunch, Phil ;)

Don t have a Kindle? Get your Kindle here, or download a FREE Kindle Reading App. "

I see the message: "Start reading Grimm's Fairy Stories (Illustrated Version) on your Kindle in under a minute. Don?t have a Kindle? Get your Kindle here."

It doesn't say anything about a free application on the screens I see.

When I click on the above link (whether for Indian recipes or fairy tales) I go to a page trying to part me with ?109. I eventually found the free application way down a very long page. It's not obvious at all, like you seem to imply. Or perhaps the Amazon screens are personalised to such an extent that I see different screens to you.

LOL george...shoulda gone to specsavers ;D

I always use goose fat or duck fat. I know it's far from the healthiest option but I think if you're going to have something, make it worth having....you can always walk/run it off after ;D
