Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Re: History of the forum
« on: May 31, 2022, 01:58 PM »
What I'm more concerned about is what happens when inevitably one day this forum stops being accessible. What a loss that will be.

I tried to access the site yesterday several times during the day without success.  I must confess to thinking that the site had finally bitten the dust.  Obviously, I am pleased to say, I was wrong.  But like you SS, I do share the concern that eventually this amazing encyclopedia of BIR knowledge, discussion, recipes, real kitchen experiences etc will be lost.  And that will be a very sad day indeed

Lets Talk Curry / Re: Another take on the 5%
« on: May 31, 2022, 01:30 PM »
Earlier this evening, I was making my favourite from curryhell, which is the only recipe I have come across that uses a particular ingredient...

Bob A Job, you've now got me intrigued.  I'm racking my brains trying to think of anything i've used in a recipe that I haven't seen used elsewhere during my curry journey.  Do put me out of my misery  :smiling eyes:
As for the elusive 5%, there are several interesting threads discussing this, all offering plausible explanations of what may be the final missing piece of the jigsaw, if it really is missing.  As long as people are reasonably happy with what they are producing, albeit not the curry of yesteryear that they remember with such fondness, that's more than half the battle.  Given that most cooks on here  are most likely able to produce something very close and likely better than that produced by an average BIR, is a testimony to the wealth of information on this site, which over the last few years has been supplemented by more information from genuine authentic sources, rather than simple replication of information that has been available on here for years.  And we all know who the culprits are  :clown2:

Yes but I can see the tumbleweed blowing across the screen.

:smiling eyes: :smiling eyes: :smiling eyes: That may be SL but the content remains (well the vast majority anyway),  so I regularly look in and enjoy reading some of what i consider defining post and classic BIR recipes from past (and in rare cases existing) members

Many thanks for sharing the recipe Bob.  This was one of many i did not save and just posted direct to the forum, expecting them all to be available for as long as the site existed.  Silly me, as many topics by individuals including recipes in the opening topic have mysteriously just disappeared, including some others I have posted.  As yet nobody has been able to provide an  explanation for this in spite of this topic having been discussed several times.  Anyway, i did keep the pictures

Hi Curryhell glad to see you're still about. No not the Captain Korma-I have tried that and wasn't that impressed, the standard has certainly dropped in most places round here.

The one in question is called The Burning Desire in Tilbury. Not much to look at from the outside but the food is lovely.
Glad to hear it's not Captain Korma lol.  I'll put the Tilbury haunt on the radar but certainly not the best of areas and no where near as convenient for you as Vindaloo was.  Hopefully, you'll grow the relationship and treat us all to some more "behind the scenes" info.  More power to your pans Jason !!

Sadly my own local takeaway(the one where I was allowed in the kitchen) has rapidly gone downhill. The chef has moved on, portions have got smaller and the food is really not as good.

Sad to hear  Vindaloo has now joined the ranks of many of our local curry houses.  Their brinjal bhaji was one of the best I have tasted.  In spite of the poor Keema naan, you certainly took away more than just their food and shared every bit of it with us.  I do hope the other local TA you refer to is not "Captain Korma"  :omg:

Do you think it's a relatively recent thing?
Not sure about the rossini dish.  I only came across this in 2010 and I would class that as recent.  As for the South Indian Garlic Chicken, I was eating this in the very early 90's.  Not sure if this qualifies as recent though.  I suppose it depends on your age
