Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Re: Sourdough Bread

Thanks willy

Worth getting into, very therapeutic making a loaf from just flour, water, salt and yeast. Especially when it's your own yeast cultivation.

Thanks Michael

Sounds like your enjoying the fruits of your breadmaking labour! I bought a "sourdough" loaf from Sainsburys the other day and it was so far removed from the real thing I couldn't believe it! It was badly baked and I thing it was made from commercial yeast?!? Nothing like the real thing.(IMO)

Whichever bread I now bake is done in the Dutch oven (cast iron casserole pot) and produces consistent results. My sourdough is the dan lepard method cooked ken forkish style! (Excellent book).

Simply delicious.

Just thought I'd bump this thread again, anybody who loves artisan breads should try getting into sourdough. Having spent a day cooking a jalfrezi for myself tomorrow and a korma for the kids tonight, I also had a sourdough loaf fermenting and proving for the day. This loaf nails supermarket sourdoughs to the wall. Delfish for both toast a sandwiches alike!

Ken ,i spoke over the phone with chris about 6 months ago and he said that (at the time) he had told you everything he had been shown from sam. Is that significant?, or do we have to wait for his ebook? He also said he wished he'd never told you (nothing personal) because it could compromise his whole ebook secret.
Does that make sense? Can you make better curries from something we are yet to find out about?

I have just made this tonight as per Bobs recipe and can vouch for it 100%. Absolutely delicious, thanks Bob!
Tip :- ignore the writing that says small portion, obviously they're catering for a few more than our families, the small portion will feed about 6-8 people  :) ;)

Edit
Having had my own portion of this instead if sampling a bit whilst serving the kids, I'm gobsmacked as to how good this is!! Wow! Nice one :o

Lets Talk Curry / Re: pickling jalapeno's

Decided to take inspiration from this and pickled a load of bullet chillis sliced up jalapeno style. Turned out really good.
I used the following recipe

http://www.simplyscratch.com/2013/05/easy-homemade-pickled-jalapenos.html

The main reason for trying this is that sainsburys are doing 2 x sarsons pickling vinegar 1.14l each for just
