Lets Talk Curry / Re: condensed milk in base gravy
« on: May 01, 2012, 12:09 AM »
I was speaking to the owner of a take away whilst the meal was being cooked and I asked him what he puts into his base. The reply was identical to the recipe that cbm has videoed. I asked him for a tray of his base to take home to which he obliged and to be honest it did taste really good and yes the carnation milk adds a slight sweetish taste, the base also had a slight kick of the fresh chillies that he added.

Hi NJ, great post you have certainly put a lot of time/effort into this.  I have exactly the same slowcooker so once I have used up the dozen portions of base in "my base chest freezer in the garage", I will look forward to giving this a go ;)

Hi Gary, I made up a batch of your base and to be honest I could not taste the coconut milk. Is the purpose to thicken or just add more body to the finished base? Will definitely make again, oh and the madras went down a treat  ;)

Lets Talk Curry / Re: Pilau rice could cause Diabetes
« on: March 16, 2012, 03:28 PM »
The study was focusing on Asian people who for genetic reasons seem very susceptible to type 2 diabetes.

The same will be true for eating bread (white or brown) or non wholemeal pasta or potatoes but the study failed to mention this fact.

In fact basmati rice is preferable (in terms of glycemic index) as it is in the medium category:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycemic_index#Glycemic_index_of_foods

The same can be said for drinking fruit juice.

Sorry but diabetes is a subject I need to know about as my young son has type 1 diabetes.

Paul
Same here Paul :( Hope he's coping well and of course yourselves too.

Hi CCL,

Here's my version of a Restaurant Medium Chicken curry http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?topic=5148.0

Use Chewy's base and whatever mixed powder that you have to hand.  Let me know how you get on but you should be fine, it's quite basic.

All the best,

Ray :)
Hi Ray, thanks for that. Made it last night except only just caught up with cro today and as it goes I made it without the sugar & tomato. I must admit I said to the wife that next time I make it ie tonight I will add sugar. After just posting my first attempt of a photo I really do need to learn how to re size them before hand. As you may see form the other forum "any thing new", it takes up the whole of the screen!!

CardiffCurrylad are you having trouble uploading your pictures for this thread

best, Rich
Hi Rich,
I am mate, I'm sure it can't be that complicated ::) I will pm you what I am doing & maybe you can shine some light on what is going wrong. Once I get it there will be no stopping me lol  ;D

I have finally worked out how to add a picture "only taken me nigh on 3 months ::) All I need to do now is establish how the hell to re size it to the given dimensions ;D
