Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Food Standards Agency
« on: February 15, 2015, 11:16 PM »
More for interest than anything else

Whilst watching my 'streaming box' (ooo erh matron) in the kitchen the other night, I get the local news update from London instead of north eaast and there was a report about food hygine inspections by Which magazine and Lewisham was ranked 396th out of 398 worst hygenic food businesses in the country. Heres a map from Which magazine

http://consumerinsight.which.co.uk/maps/hygiene

The report also stated that you can go on the Food Standards Agency site and look at results for all of Britain.
A bit further investigation by me found a smart phone app called Scores on the Doors
http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/
which tells you the ratings around where you are. It certainly makes interesting reading.

I'll save my opinions for later.  :)

NB. Just looked more closely at the map and Edinburgh (which was my second home for most of my school life)  is worse than Lewisham. :-\

Enfield is the worst

Pictures of Your Curries / Lunch Time Leftovers
« on: January 21, 2015, 01:24 PM »
Last night, after a bit inspiration from the photo of Chewy's Murgh Sagwalla, I had a go at one last night using fresh spinach along with some fresh chillis and boned and skinned leg. I also made the wifes obligatory Chicken Ceylon (chicken breast). Both very nice (IMO) and I had the leftovers today with a drizzle of Glasgow Salad (just for Phil and Stephen Lindsay.)

Theres also enough base left in the pan to knock up a couple of sauces for the freezer.  :) :)

Pictures of Your Curries / New Years Eve's Attempts
« on: January 01, 2015, 01:56 PM »
Last nights New Years Eve curries were Chewy's Bhuna using the Kurzi Lamb I had left over from our Christmas day BIR along with (at the wife's request) a korma but with a good dollop of chilli powder in. I made a egg pilau to go with it along with some bought chapatis as the frozen naan dough balls that I thought I had turned out I didn't. Bhuna was in serving dish and korma was when I forgot I hadn't done a photo and was half-eaten.
Both were very heavy in the meat portion department. The baby plum tomatoes I like to use mushed a bit to quick in the Bhuna as well, spoiling my photo a bit. Still tasted good though

Update - For those interested, base was JB's and mix powder was from a local BIR. Korma recipe was Dips and instead of sugar I grated some jaggery which I had in my spice tub. Chilli powder in both dishes was Extra Hot.

Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / Drat and Double Drat
« on: November 26, 2014, 08:30 PM »
I've been gently coaxed out of retirement by a few people I know to do some work for them. Anyway, I've just spent a couple of days in London and we were working at Spitalfields market and just before 4pm a bloke came into the shop and said if thats your van you better move it as the camera turns round at 4 and you'll get a ticket so i jumped in the van drove a couple of streets away and parked at a meter and low and behold when i got out and looked around I was on Brick Lane not previously having a clue where it was beforehand. The bad thing about it was that i never got to sample any of the establishments as the lad I was with didn't do curries. I can't believe I was so close but yet so far. Its now on the cards though for next time I'm there with hopefully appropriate personnel.  :(

Any recommendations as they all seem to be curry house of the year?

Talk About Anything Other Than Curry / More Street Food
« on: August 02, 2014, 07:16 PM »
Went to the Boiler Shop Steamer today with the missus as I've been promising to go for ages but haven't managed. Basically its plenty of street food stalls with some drinks bars and live music which takes place first weekend of every month.

Anyway enough of the preamble, this month Manjits Kitchen was there with her Indian street food. I had to try the Chilli Paneer wrap and I have to say it was delicious although a hefty
