Doesn't Anyone Like Fish Curry ?
« on: September 08, 2006, 12:38 AM »
Hi All
Ive looked through the recipe section and I cannot see any references to fish Curries  :-\

I have eaten authentic fish Curry a few times at an Indian friends home and I must say it's bloody lovely :o

It appears to me that this style of Curry has not been talked about probably because not many of our members have tasted it ::)

I would appreciate your views on this subject.

Hi Layne,

I think the closest we come in BIR cooking is shellfish (prawns).  In old Blighty fish is too expensive and not readily available.
I would also be worried that it just falls apart in the cooking process.

You need to use good quality meaty fish like a monkfish or something.....just not available in the UK.....i think?

I have made only traditional fish curries with cod . red snapper , salmon and sea bass       ( including tandoori fish ). I would think that one could utilize any of the favorite base sauces and that with slight adjustment of both spices and seasoning create a reasonable dish . Creating your own spice rub ( masala ) for fish ( needs to be refrigerated for a few hours ) then putting it on the bbq is another interesting way of serving fish .

I had a fish curry once, I was working in a bir
doing repairs and i was given a fish curry to try.

It was very nice, he just used a tin of
fish (like sardines) as he was just trying it out.

The fish went very well with the Bhuna
type sauce, the chef wanted to know what i thought.

Never see it on a Bir menu, but when i talk to other Bir
owners about it they seem to know exactly what i am talking about,

more than i do !!

I was talking to one of my Indian friends that I train with in the gym...he stated that his wife quite often makes pakoras with fish ...... now that certainly strikes my fancy - shall give it a go .

I know someone who does that!  They marinade the fish with tandoori type spices and then cook it.  Then coat it with besan mixture and fry.  I dont eat fish but they say it is very tasty.
