Which Variety of Chilli?
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:46 PM »
Bought these yesterday from the loose section in Morrison's.
Labeled as scotch bonnet but they look more like a modern hybrid to me.  ???

They look a wee bit like Friar's Hat, DP - but they're not hot at all. Are these chillies Scotch Bonnet-hot?

It's very very rare that any supermarket chain sell true scotch bonnets, they are nearly always Jamaican hot peppers

I think these are the ones I made my chilli sauce from. If so they're scorchio!

Just ate a fresh one. Not that hot at all really.  >:(
On a par with a good jalepeno, a lot milder than a small green finger chilli and no fruitiness. So nothing like a scotch bonnet.
I've been had!
Only bought them because of the shape, thinking I was getting something special.  ::)

Aye, DP, I think you've been diddled! You would definitely get a tingle from the real thing.

same type chillies can have different heat levels i.e the worlds hottest recorded, Carolina reaper was measured at 2.2ish million scovilles but its average is 1.5 million so some will be around 0.8 million, a lot of difference for the same pepper
