The "taste", an explanation?
« on: January 25, 2007, 09:36 PM »
I had "The Truth About Food" on in the background while I was working. The programme itself is pretty poor but they had a bit about super-tasters which peaked my interest. It seems that, on average, 25% of us are super-tasters, i.e. they have more taste buds. The significance is that super-tasters perceive tastes more intensely.

This could explain why some people here believe that their curries have achieved the "taste", while others, the super-tasters, are left feeling dejected at not being able to get that taste with exactly the same recipe. There's a test you can do here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2880471.stm

If you do the test post your taste type here and also whether you believe you've cracked the curry "taste" we are looking for. Should be interesting.

A very good point YF.  I shall give it a try when I have a long period without customers as it may put them off seeing me with a blue tongue ;D ;D :o :o

The only way I can think of is to get as many of the regular posters/chefs together and try various dishes at a restaurant (preferably several restautants)!!!

The we will get closer to what is the 'taste' and the 'smell'.

Coming next will be an announcement by the government  that 'super tasters' will be forced to pay higher taxes than everybody else for having more than thier fair share of the taste!
There will be no tax benefits for infirior tasters.

Will that be on top of the extra ?6K tax per annum that Brown is threatening to impose on the 'middle classes' this year then >:( >:( >:(  I am suprised the he hasn't imposed a super tax on CTM; after all it is UK's most popular dish and the tax could replace the revenue lost on fags.  Oh dear, getting political..... must stop.  Apologies one and all.

CP ;)

CTM (along with all masalas, Nan breads and popadoms) will all incur a 'health tax' - This will raise the price of a popadom to about 2 pounds and a Nan bread to about 7.50 - This will go to the NHS to pay for all the coronary care caused by eating ghee and high fat foods. :D

(If someone told me that people would be charged 525 pounds a year to park 2 cars outside their own house 10 years ago I would have laughed. Now it is happening!) :-[
