I did this afternoon. Refused to upload them.

1 x jpeg 300 pixels x 250 pixels (small file)

Keep getting this message:-

Your attachment couldn't be saved. This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information

I know this doesn't work that well with the gallery concept, but people posting curry video/photos could always link them in from another site (like flikr, google, personal blog, etc.) and not eat up all of the storage space on Stew's server.  No sense in costing him any more money than necessary to host this pretty valuable forum.

I didn't see any way to do that from the gallery pages though.  It looks like the forum software only allows pictures uploaded to be part of a gallery.

If you don't have any other place to put the photos, I'm not saying don't use the site, but if you've another place to put them, it might be better on both the bandwidth and storage quotas wherever cr0 is physically hosted.  If every one of the 4089 members uploaded a single 100k photo (the ones in my posts were between 50-100k each), that'd be around 400MB of storage.  Of course, that isn't the case (there's only a handful of pictures that I've seen in the galleries), but if you add the software and other downloads, etc., it all adds up.

If none of the above makes any sense to you, then don't worry about it. ;)  Wait 'till Stew's sorted more storage and bring on the photos.

Just trying to help out...

I personally think the upload maximum file size can be reduced.

For example the attached file is a good quality jpeg file which is 400 pixels x 280 pixels. It's size (optimised) is only 30 kB. Nowadays most submissions could/should be in jpeg format anyway.

A 1500 kB file is far larger than can be practically used on this forum.

Here is an example of wasting space (not having a go at anyone in particular .. AN EXAMPLE ONLY - there are plenty of other examples just like it)

http://www.curry-recipes.co.uk/curry/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=47

The file size is 535 pixels X 700 pixels and weigh in at a massive 451 KB.

Below is the same photo optimised which is the same size but now only 34 KB (7.5% of the original size)

Another point here:-

If photos can't be optimised (ie: insufficient knowledge in optimising using photo editing software), then when the photos are taken, ensure that the camera setting is for web standard photos. On my camera this is shown as 03M. This is the quality which normally shows the maximum amount of frames available to the camera.

03M is taken at 640 x 480 pixels which is sufficient for all web use ... including this forum!

I have run out of server space, i am currently working to purchase some more space.

Let me guess, it's going to cost 7 grand for a cluster of servers and the manpower to look after it  :P
