My Latest Effort
« on: January 26, 2008, 11:00 AM »
Here is my effort at Darth's base and his 100% Madras clone.
Along with some rice and Cory's easy to follow Naan bread ( although cooked in a wok!)

Looks good, xPat.

I hope the portions were larger than the pictures, though! ;D

Nice finish on the naan as well.  I need to use a different tool for mine, as I've never managed to make them look quite BIR-ish enough yet.  I'll give the carbon-steel wok a try next time.  Did you use the sides or the bottom?

If I can make a suggestion?  Can you embed the images in the post rather than including them as links?  It makes it much easier to see the pictures (2nd button on the 2nd row from the left).

Cheers,

ast

Hello Ast,

I know the pics aren't great and I've tried to upload but am having problems.
As for the naan bread, I used the side of the wok with no oil and the brushed them with a little melted ghee after.

Hope to have better pics soon.

Hi xPat,

Thanks for the tips on the naan.  I'll certainly try it next time.

I was only joking, btw. ;)

For the images, you don't need to upload them to get them in the message.  You can do it just by linking in the ones you already have hosted externally.  Instead of using the URL button in the toolbar, just use the IMG (Insert Image) button.  That will give you (img)(/img) with square brackets which will display your remote images inline within the body of the message.  This is what I do with all the images that I post.

This is different than uploading the images using the tools in "Additional Options".

Either way will work just fine (once Stu's got the upload fixed).

Hope this helps,

ast

Thanks for the help Ast.

Its doing my head in now, from what I can gather there seems to be a few problems linking pics.
So I've kept the photo links in and the images seem better now.

The pictures are much better now, xPat.

I think you linked to the thumbnails before?  They were tiny!

If you want to give it one more go, if you edit your post, you'll see (with square brackets instead of normal ones): (url)http://.../1.jpg(/url).

If you change this to (img)http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg40/xpatx2008/1.jpg(/img) it should leave the picture on photobucket and then display it in the body of the message.  No uploading to cr0 required.

Remember to use the square brackets though!

This should *always* work if you want to put images in your posts.

Thanks for linking to the bigger pictures.

Cheers,

ast

hey xpatx

have to say well done on your effort,
looks delicious,
love the look of your rice, have to say that is one area i have to improve drastically on.
I have only really made basic basmati, brown and white rice, so if anyone has any tips of an easy way to make good BIR style rices, please dont hesitate to mesge me the recipe.

Cheers Vindalooney,

Glad you liked it.
I can never get my rice spot on with the absorption method.
So I have a pan of boiling water, with bay leaf, turmeric and cardomom pods then put my rice in the boiling water for 5 Min's. Take straight out and cool it down to stop it from cooking any further.
Works every time for me.
I also pop the cardomom pods open and leave the seeds in the rice.

Great pics xPatx, all looks very tasty 8)

I've tried to upload but am having problems.

There is still a problem with server space, Admin is looking at it but use imageshack or similar if you can't upload, it's a pain but hopefully it will be sorted soon.
