Wahl spice/coffee grinder
« on: February 15, 2008, 04:30 PM »
Bought one of these little Wahl coffee grinders during the weekend (15 squid) - so far so good.

Anyone else got one of these models - any feedback.

I've heard that grinding cummin seeds can destroy plastic (the lid) ... anyone had experience with this?

At Amazon 14.77 (1% saving - WOW)

Is this quite small, or do you climb inside to use?
Just joking
I use a coffee grinder but I always feel it's going to break the plastic case.
Very noisy, but it's an amazing aroma after use!!
Do you make up your own garam masala then?
Or is it for coriander and cummin seeds?

Yup, I climb inside? It's actually a discarded 60 foot space rocket ... specially converted for grinding spices! ::)

I want to make some Mughal Garam Masala. This only uses:-

Cardomom seeds, cinnamon sticks, cloves, black peppercorns and some nutmeg.

I use a Bosch Coffee grinder and have had no issues grinding cumin seeds or any other spice for that matter. I put a crack in the lid when I was p**h*d and dropped it though 8) Still works a treat - I find Bosch stuff to always be pretty heavy duty. Good manly products like car parts and no nonsense appliances. Not like that feminine bit of kit you got on Amazon! Are you sure that thing's a grinder and not something else? I've never heard of one that takes 2 AAs ;D
I'm just kidding - looks much smarter than mine!

Actually Bobby, it's not mine - the Missus bought it.

She told me I could use it to grind spices if I really want to, but I'm damned if I can find where the spices go?
