I'm not sure if this is right or not, but I once heard that the Bhuna originated from Pakistan?.........

Can anyone shed any light on this?

I think the term bhuna is a technique rather than a dish so I would assume the Bhuna to be an invention for the British market. The frying of ground spices or a spice paste in oil is to "bhuna" them.
