Special Beef Karahi
« on: November 21, 2022, 07:03 PM »
First non-balti curry in a while.  Made this a couple of times in the past, so knew what to expect.  It's good, different.  Trad, no onions.

Here's the recipe, followed it best I could:

I used Kashmiri chilli powder this time.  Canned chopped plum tomato.  Cooked handi style; took 2 1/2 hours.  2 x 400 g diced Irish beef, yellow sticker.  Extra dry.  Don't see/never had, a Balti Beef, but why not?  Plan using some of what's left (a fair bit) as a pre-cook for a Balti Beef and Black Pepper.  A tribute to Al's Kitchen, for his enlightening and thought provoking balti videos.

I've been interested in beef curry before today and have tried a few, but never really found what I wanted. This looks promising.  I'll give it a try after we get through the leftovers from the weekend celebration of my mother in law's 80th birthday.

Had 2 x 400 g Asda Essentials braising steak (yellow sticker) so another Beef karahi was on the cards.  Pressure cooked this time.  Loads of garlic.  Mumtaz basaar.  Portioned some for a couple of curries (pictured) and froze down the rest.  Decent curry.  No onions again, but treated myself to a complementary little pot of spring onion garnish. This garnish is also nice with some sliced green chilli (bullet) included.

Used most of it but there is enough left for tonight and tomorrow.  Have made a fresh mushroom/garlic pre-cook and will add some of this.  Next for me is several batches of MDB MKI base gravy.  Had a mare getting hold of Asian bay leaves, but got some now, so we're off.  Balti fest!
