Lahore One Restaurant.

Tel : 0207 791 0112
218 Commercial Road, London, E1 2JT

Probably the finest freshly made kebabs (Lahore style) to be found anywhere in London, and a very reasonably priced jug of Mango Lassi.  Highly recommended.

But presumably 'New Indian Cuisine' rather than good old fashioned curry houses. Does such a thing still exist anywhere now ? Bring back red flock wallpaper and curries you can stand your fork up in I say. I'm thoroughly p***** off with children's food in tiny portions.

I'm thoroughly p***** off with children's food in tiny portions.
A Sinhalese friend said exactly that to the waiter when we had lunch in an Indian restaurant in Bromley (Kent) some many years ago : Suhail took one look at the pilau rice, and said loudly "That is a child's portion : take it away and bring me a man's portion." !  Exit flustered waiter, stage left.  I followed his example some years later in the New Forest, where "nouvelle cuisine" had just caught on.  I was brought a delightful meal in the pub/inn where I was staying, but the portion of chips (I am sure they had some far posher name) was minuscule.  When the waiter asked politely "Is there anything else I can get you, Sir", I responded (equally politely) "Yes please : another portion of chips, about twice the size of that one !".

P.S.  Nothing "New Indian Cuisine" about Lahore One : that is Lahori food for Lahoris !

agree lahori is good from what i remember (i went there years ago)

paramount is more of  a  :Dtraditional joint (dark traditional wood etc..and a small fountain with fish!...not for eating though)definatly not new cuisine nonsense...

went to lahore one on the weekend.....
i would NOT class it as one of the best in london
didnt do mango lassi
and ?3.50 for a jug of sweet lassi isnt particularly cheap and not much on the menu.
curry portion for one person is more like kids portion.

kebab roll was good (using thinner naan)
food is not bad but not outstanding in my opinion.

i think for this type of `cafe style` indian place ,saleems catering on turnpike lane n8 is vastly better and cheaper.

I do not dispute that their curries are nothing special, and are also overpriced.  But the kebabs are out of this world.  I am surprised they have dropped the mango lassi, because at
