An enigma (well, for me anyway!)

In BIR's, you have the condiments, chutneys, raitha, and the green coconutty thing, very sweet and dry - what is that?  I checked through newsgroups for a few months and nobody could give me a proper answer - no-one knew!!  But I am guessing you lot do!!!

thanks  ;D

The only green condiment I have seen is the Raita
The green colour coming from the coriander and mint
I have never heard or seen this coconut mixture
Sorry

Hi,

I have had something that was similar to this before (although it was orange). From taste, texture and appearance of the stuff it was just dessicated coconut, a little salt and some food coloring.

Thanks peeps.  I did ask a local BIR owner what is in it and he mentioned ground cardamons and other spices, but gave me a beguiling smile as if its a big secret or something.  I've seen it red and green and is definitely coconut and very sweet but seems to have other flavours that I cant pinpoint.

Oh well, it still appears to be an enigma for some people!  :-\

There is a south indian chutney made with coconut....doing a seach like that you should find a recipe.  it is delicious and creamy and usually green or white but I guess any other color can be added to it.
