Hi from not so sunny Manchester
« on: September 19, 2012, 11:52 AM »
Hi everyone, I live in an area where you can?t walk 100 meters without passing a curry / kebab / pizza shop, in addition to web sites like ?Just Eat? & ?Hungry house? it?s even easier to have a regular intake of the above food groups and its little wonder we're all addicts with curries now being the national dish.
That said, for many years iv struggled making one with that authentic BIR taste and texture, iv managed to get to grips with Samosa, bhajis and sheik kebabs etc, but a true curry was always out of my reach.
As many have, I stumbled upon this site and though "that?s worth a bash!" I have most of the ingredients to give it a whirl.
Last night I made the Taz base (or very nearly!) and from this a garlic chilli chicken.
Although I didn?t have every ingredient and made a few educated substitutions it was wonderful, im not saying it was the very best curry iv ever had, but the very best curry iv ever made and had the taste and texture of a proper takeout!
The missus thought I was a Hero!
Next time I?ll follow the recipe to the letter and can?t wait to try more!
Jason

Hi Jason

Another Manc here, but I now live down under. Originally from Miles Platting, and I used to frequent the "curry Mile" regularly.

Happy cooking mate

Bloody hell Mick, Miles Platting.  I worked over there back in 1986, taking the 3rd floor off the masonettes, turning them into 2 storey houses, near the Brown Cow pub.

Happy day's ;)

Hi ah great locals...
Im from Ashton under Lyne (well in-between Ashton and Stalybridge), which unfortunately is in the news for all the wrong reasons with the tragedy of the shooting of two police officers yesterday.

I used to go in the Brown Cow every Sunday afternoon with the family.

I grew up in the same maisonettes. Moved to "posh" Gorton about 1986 when they were taking the tops off, and never returned to the Platting. :)

We drove through Miles Platting 3 years ago when we were back for a holiday............wow what a sh1tehole.

Jason, I live in A-U-L too (Guide Bridge).  Absolute long shot, but you wouldn't happen to be a relation of big Vic Podmore would ya?

Moved up that way back in '93. Lived in Dukinfield for 3 years. Ran a couple of pubs.
